 AUTO ACCIDENT CHECKLIST

The following "checklist" is designed to help you take the necessary steps to protect your legal rights in case of an accident.

- Stop the car and do not leave the scene, no matter how minor the accident.
- Get uninjured passengers out of the vehicle and to the side of the road safely away from the vehicle and traffic.
- Call the police.
- Put your emergency flashers on and try to use additional safety precautions such as flares or flags.
- Call an ambulance if you or someone is injured.
- Get the other driver's name, phone number and insurance company with policy number.
- If the other driver is uncooperative or if you are fearful, at least get the license plate number.
- Be sure to ask the police officer for the Accident Case Report number.

- Make statements about the accident to anyone but the police.
- Move the vehicles until after the police have arrived unless it poses a safety threat to other traffic. Use common sense.
